Adventure Resume & Randomness

So you can get a feel for you I am and if I'm a good fit for what you're looking for.

Adventure Resume + Extra Randomness

You can tell a lot about a person by what they do in their spare time.

I tell people I crave adventure like most people crave chocolate and that's true. I also crave challenges, learning new things and meeting people who match my "crazy." Here are just a few of my adventures:

  • Cross-country skiing in the Arctic circle, sleeping in tents in the snow with strangers and seeing the Northern Lights daily.
  • Learning to sail in the Atlantic Ocean, despite being prone to seasickness, have since sailed to the Faroe Islands and to the British and U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal successfully.
  • Trekked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru
  • Triathlons - 3 Sprint and 1 Olympic
  • 8 Half Marathons
  • 1 Marathon

Quirky & Fun Out of Office Emails

When I'm out on vacation, I like to do more than just the standard, "Out of Office" emails. I actually got this idea from HubSpot years ago and ran with it. My colleagues LOVE them and even look forward to them. Here are just a few from the last few years.

Freezing in Nebraska

Oh, this is awkward: You’ve caught me away from my desk and out of the office.

I’m in Omaha, Nebraska (don't be jealous, the current temperature is about 15 degrees - considered a heat wave here) until Wednesday, Jan 16th, and I know I’m supposed to say I have limited access to email but the truth is, the WiFi works just fine here #SorryNotSorry.

I’m just focusing on meeting my new niece and babysitting 2 others instead of my inbox. Once I’m back, I look forward to embracing WiFi again and following up with you.

In case of an emergency*, you can slack me or text me at ***-***-***. You can also send an email to marianne@*****.com, but just know that if you email, my response may not come until later in the day after my nieces have gone to bed.

Have an amazing day,

Marianne
Utah.com Product Manager

*Emergency can be defined as:
  • ‘The Bachelorette’ returned my phone call and they LOVED my audition tape
  • They’ve replaced salted almonds with unsalted almonds (i.e. no salt) in the office break room
  • I was tagged in an unflattering photo on Facebook
  • You won the lottery and need someone to split the winnings with because it’s simply too much money for one person
Knee-deep in Sushi 🍣 & Shrines
Konichiwa,

Did you know that not taking vacation can increase your risk of a heart attack by 30 to 50%? Did you know that taking a vacation increases creativity, reduces stress, improves productivity, and is good for the heart?

Can you guess where I am? Hint - I’m not in the office

My initial greeting should have given you another big hint, but in case your language skills are a little rusty, here are a few more clues:
  • It’s an island in the Pacific Ocean - but not Hawaii
  • It’s in the future, 15 hours into the future in fact or at least 15 hours ahead of Salt Lake City.
  • It is known for having the most vending machines in the world

In case you haven’t guessed already, I am in Japan where I am knee-deep in sushi, shrines, hiking to the top of Mt. Fuji, riding bullet trains, staying in capsule hotels, and hanging out with monks.

Here’s who to contact while I’m away: Robert@*****.com and Sam at Sam@*****.com

I’ll be back in the office Tuesday, September 17th.

Arigato and Sayonara,

Marianne

P.S. If you’d like to follow along, I will try and post a few pictures here and there on my Instagram account (@mjennings21) if the Japanese wifi gods are willing.
Away in the Arctic

Hey there.

I am out of the office until Monday, March 10th.  Why?  Great question!

If you need immediate help, please contact Jen or Robert, who are basically superheroes.

If you want to know more about my travels, read on...

christmasstory

Right now I am on an arctic cross-country skiing expedition in northern Norway, pulling a sled with all of my gear, ice fishing, experiencing the northern lights, and sleeping in the snow in tents with strangers. I know...you probably wish you were here too.

It might be obvious, but this means I am far from any cell tower or wifi hotspot. I should have internet in a few days and will respond to the critical emails.

Please, DM photos of penguins to my Instagram @mjennings21 to alert me that you've sent an email. This is most important.

I’ll get back to your email on March 10th, or after I’ve thawed out.

Warm wishes
Marianne
